Can Datadog Query ClickHouse? What the 2026 Preview Means
Datadog and ClickHouse announced Preview routing and federated search in June 2026. What it does, what remains Preview, and where a managed ClickHouse backend fits.
The short answer
Yes — in Datadog Preview. As of June 2026, Datadog and ClickHouse announced Observability Pipelines routing to ClickHouse and Federated Logs search from Datadog Log Explorer without re-ingesting those logs into Datadog. That is Datadog’s product, still Preview. You can run ClickHouse yourself or use a managed backend such as LogHouse so you get ClickHouse economics without operating the database.
What Datadog and ClickHouse announced
On June 10, 2026, Datadog published “Store and search high-volume logs with ClickHouse and Datadog,” and ClickHouse published a matching partnership post. Two Preview capabilities: a native ClickHouse destination in Observability Pipelines, and federated search of ClickHouse-stored logs from Log Explorer.
Datadog’s own language: route high-volume logs to ClickHouse and search them from Log Explorer without re-ingesting them into Datadog. Request access to Federated Logs Preview through Datadog. Do not treat this as generally available until Datadog says it is for your account.
Why this changes Datadog log economics
Before, high-volume logs that you wanted searchable usually lived inside Datadog’s ingest/storage/retention meters. Now the architecture can split: keep monitors and high-value logs in Datadog; park verbose streams in ClickHouse; still investigate from Log Explorer when federated search is enabled.
The UX stays Datadog. The storage layer can be ClickHouse. That is the whole point.
You still have to run ClickHouse — unless you don’t
A ClickHouse destination is not a ClickHouse operations team. Schema, ordering keys, scaling, upgrades, auth, and retention still exist. Teams that already operate ClickHouse can point Datadog at their cluster. Teams that do not want that work need a managed product in front of the same engine.
LogHouse is that product. It is not a Datadog partnership and Datadog does not endorse it. It is managed ClickHouse for logs, usable with Datadog’s Preview architecture or as a standalone logging platform.
